Foundation Phase Coding & Robotics Programmes

One learning journey. Four years of growing thinking skills.

Playcode Academy provides structured, CAPS-aligned Coding & Robotics programmes for Grade R, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3, designed to build computational thinking and problem-solving skills progressively throughout the Foundation Phase.

Through practical, screen-free activities, detailed lesson guidance and learner workbook activities, educators and homeschool parents have a clear path from what to teach to how to teach it.

Built to Grow With the Learner

A Foundation That Develops Year by Year

Coding & Robotics concepts aren't learned once and left behind. Across Grades R–3, learners revisit and extend important thinking skills as activities become progressively more challenging.

The Playcode programmes build this progression deliberately, allowing learners to develop confidence as they move from early pattern recognition and sequencing to increasingly complex algorithms, problem-solving, debugging and robotics concepts.

40 Structured Lessons

A full year's learning journey, with 10 structured lessons per term, or 20 lessons per term for Grade 3.

Learner Workbook

Activities reinforce the concepts experienced through practical, screen-free learning.

Detailed Lesson Plans

Step-by-step guidance helps educators understand the concept, prepare the activity and facilitate the lesson confidently.

Practical Learning

Activities use movement, games, problem-solving and accessible materials to bring Coding & Robotics concepts to life.

Grade R - Where thinking begins

Introduce young learners to patterns, sequencing, direction and logical thinking through purposeful play.

Grade 1 - From play to purposeful instructions

Develop early algorithms, position, movement and problem-solving through practical activities.

Grade 2 - Building more complex thinking

Extend algorithms through routes, turns, debugging and increasingly challenging problem-solving.

Grade 3 - Ready for the next level

Develop more sophisticated algorithmic thinking, conditions, coordinates, evaluation and problem-solving.
